News Release - Statement of Mayor Thomas S. Richards on Democrat and Chronicle Plan to Move to Midtown Site

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013) – This is good news for Downtown. The Democrat and Chronicle is renewing their commitment to our Center City and will participate in the rebirth of Midtown. This is a strong expression of confidence in the City’s efforts to revitalize both Midtown and Main Street. This new construction validates the City’s approach to Midtown Rising. We set out to re-establish a traditional urban streetscape with shovel-ready development parcels to accommodate those companies who need to build-to-suit. This augments our already robust adaptive re-use projects in existing buildings such as the Sibley building across street from this location. The deal is subject to the terms of the existing land sale agreement with the Pike Company and to the already existing COMIDA tax abatement plan. There is no other City financial commitment to the project.
