City of Rochester News Release - Mayor Warren Unveils New Installations in Honor of Woman Suffrage Centennial

City of Rochester News Release

(Monday, May 8, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren joined Kate Bennett, President, Rochester Museum & Science Center and Deborah Hughes, President/CEO, National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House to unveil new banners, cutouts and a life-size postcard installation at the City of Rochester Public Market to commemorate the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in New York.

“Today we continue to celebrate the contributions of women who refused failure and helped to move our country forward,” said Mayor Warren. “These new installations at the City of Rochester Public Market allow Market visitors to learn about and celebrate local women who made a difference both here in Rochester and beyond. It is important to remember our past as we work toward a future of more jobs, safer, more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for our citizens.”

The new installations include banners which highlight 17 women who have made contributions in areas such as social reform, medicine, and business; four life-size woman suffragist cutouts and a life-size “postcard” where visitors can have their photo taken with Susan B. Anthony. The Rochester Museum & Science Center sponsored and constructed the four life-size cutouts. The installations will remain at the City of Rochester Public Market through the end of the year. Each of the 17 women featured on the banners at the public market will also be represented in an exhibition opening at the Central Library on June 2 and video profiles will be shown on City 12 TV.
