Adopt a Dog

December Fee-Waived Adoption Event

December 17th 2016 is our next fee-waived event to adopt a pet at no charge. These events apply to all cats and dogs available for adoption on the event date and are made possible by a grant from Petco Foundation. Adopters can have their names added to wait lists for stray animals with holding periods that expire after the event date but such animals will not be included in the fee-waiver.

Please remember to bring a collar and leash to ensure that dogs can leave on the scheduled release date and make it to their new homes safely.

Adopt a Shelter Dog Today

Are you considering adopting a dog?  This might be the perfect time. Review the profiles for the dogs currently available at the shelter and then head down to 184 Verona Street in Rochester to visit and make that special connection.

Breed Labels

Visual breed identification in dogs is subjective and frequently inaccurate and the consequences associated with using particular labels can be significant. Therefore, we are no longer using breed labels for our adoptable dogs unless we are provided corresponding documentation from the previous owner. Without pedigree records from a breeder or DNA testing, breed labels will not be used on our web postings, kennel cards, rabies certificates, or dog licenses. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each one based on personality, not by suspected breed composition.

Thank You PetSaverShelter-Feeding-Program-log

The City of Rochester is grateful to PetSaver Healthy Pet Superstore for its donation of all of the cat litter and pet food used at the Animal Services Center. This support enables Animal Services to purchase veterinary supplies and shelter enrichment items that would not otherwise be possible.
