City Urges Citizens to Exercise Patience, Caution on Roads Tonight

(Friday, January 12, 2018) – The expected intensity of this evening’s predicted snowfall is expected to present a challenge to plow crews, so the City of Rochester is asking motorists to exercise patience and caution as crews work throughout the evening to keep the roads open.

Monroe County is under a Winter Storm Warning until 4 p.m. tomorrow, with rain changing to freezing rain and sleet Friday evening, then heavy snow expected Friday night through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

“Our crews will be working hard throughout the night and into the morning to clear the roads, however these conditions present particular challenges, so we need cooperation from our citizens,” said Norman Jones, Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Services. “So I am asking our citizens to please exercise caution, only drive if necessary, abide by alternate side parking restrictions, and give plows plenty of space to do their jobs.”

Citizens are asked to monitor the news for updated weather and road conditions. If you must drive, leave yourself plenty of time to get where you need to go, and if you encounter a snow plow, stay at least 200 feet behind it, slow down and never pass on the right.

************PLEASE NOTE: Observing alternate side parking restrictions is CRITICAL for snow removal. Just one car parked on the wrong side can keep an entire block from being plowed.**************
