(Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren invites the community to enjoy a host of exciting activities at the 34th Annual Lakeside Winter Celebration in Charlotte on Saturday, Feb. 10. On Sunday, Feb. 11 the fun continues with the annual Polar Plunge. All events will take place at the Port of Rochester Terminal Building and adjacent Ontario Beach Park.

“Rochester has so much to offer in every season of the year and the Lakeside Winter Celebration is a perennial favorite,” said Mayor Warren. There is something for everyone to enjoy this weekend and no matter the weather, we are always seeking to create safer, more vibrant neighborhoods, more jobs and greater educational opportunities for residents. Special events like this help us do that.” Activities take place from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10:

• Horse-drawn carriage rides
• Dog sled demonstrations
• Outdoor children’s games with Rec on the Move and inflatables
• Ice sculpture demonstrations
• Snow sculpture contest with a Valentine’s Day theme
• Chilly Chili Challenge, (noon to 3 p.m.)
• NEW: Sip and Shop in the Jetty at the Port, (noon to 5 p.m.). Enjoy a drink while shopping at a variety of vendors featuring gift items, Valentine surprises and more
• Lake Ontario Wine and Craft Beer Festival (noon to 5 p.m.)
• Entertainment by the Neil Van Dorn Band (noon to 5:30 p.m.)
• Winter hike: Port of Rochester Terminal Building, History of Ontario Beach Park, (1 p.m.)
• Fireworks (5:30 p.m.)

The Lakeside Winter Celebration is organized by the all-volunteer Ontario Beach Park Program Committee and sponsored by the City of Rochester, Monroe County, Port of Charlotte Merchants Association, Charlotte Community Association, CITY Newspaper and Wegmans. On Sunday, Feb. 11, the fun continues with the annual Polar Plunge at noon. More than 1,000 winter enthusiasts are expected to rush into the icy waters of Lake Ontario to benefit the Special Olympics.

Free off-site parking and shuttle service is available for all plungers and spectators. Shuttles will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. departing from Greece Arcadia High School, 120 Island Cottage Rd. Participants and spectators are strongly urged to take advantage of this transportation option as parking at the Port is limited.
