City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, July 5, 2018) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren has called a Cool Sweep Heat Emergency for today, Thursday, July 5, in anticipation of forecasted temperatures exceeding 90 degrees. Cool Sweep — presented by Avangrid Foundation and RG&E — is the City’s annual public safety and customer service program that is triggered when the forecast calls for excessive heat. During a Cool Sweep Heat Emergency, R-Centers and libraries are opened to serve as cooling centers, hydrants are opened, and hours at Genesee Valley Park Pool and Durand Eastman Beach are extended. City spray parks and other City pools are open regular hours, with programming suspended so all can enjoy the water.

If outside, residents are reminded to stay safe by drinking plenty of fluids, wearing loose fitting clothes, and taking frequent breaks while working. Please bring pets inside and do not leave them in hot vehicles for any amount of time.
