What We Do
The Commissioner's Office is responsible for the overall direction and management of the department.
The Administrative Division is responsible for:
- Policy development, human resource and fiscal administration, budget development and oversight
- Performance management, strategic planning, program management of large IT-related projects
- DES website development and social media
- Community relations
The Division of Cemeteries is responsible for the operational and administrative direction of Mount Hope and Riverside Cemeteries.
The Division of Environmental Quality is responsible for environmental compliance and pollution prevention programs, brownfield investigation, cleanup and redevelopment, Port of Rochester redevelopment, and environmental planning services including brownfield area-wide planning, energy management and climate action planning, regional sustainability planning and harbor management planning.
