Library Profile
The Lyell Branch Library is located in Sector 3 of the Northwest Quadrant. It serves the West side of the City of Rochester, which is a community of more than 30,000 residents. Originally constructed in 1985, the branch has since expanded to incorporate a meeting room.
The collection has well over 17,000 items available for reference use or borrowing, such as books, DVDs, music CDs, books on CD and magazines. Special collections include GED and test preparation materials, graphic novels and manga, urban fiction, video games and a wide selection of children’s movies.
The first public library in Rochester that served the Lyell Avenue neighborhood opened in 1912 as the Exposition Park Branch. This became the Edgerton Branch Library, which opened in 1968 and closed in 1980. Now located at the corner of Lyell Avenue and Avery Street, the Lyell Branch strives to offer personalized, friendly service and a large variety of materials to its patrons. The library features both on and off-street parking for patrons.
The Lyell Branch Library is a member of the Monroe County Library System. Visit Lyell Branch Library's Blog.
