Location
Where you purchase space within the cemetery depends in part on the type of burial you want (mausoleum, ground, cremation), the amount of space you require and personal aesthetic considerations.
Type of Burial
Riverside Mausoleum
Being buried in a mausoleum can be less expensive than a ground burial because there is no need to purchase a vault or marker. There are three types of mausoleum spaces.
- Double: Two caskets next to each other or head to head or head to foot. The family name(s) is engraved in the center with one person's name and dates on the left and the other on the right. The cost ranges from $3,025 and up depending on location within the mausoleum.
- Single: A single casket and one urn burial or two urn burials side by side.
- Niche: A single urn burial. (Double Niches are available at both cemeteries in our garden columbarium)
- Chapel of Peace Mausoleum coming soon!
Special vases are available for placing flowers at a loved one's mausoleum site.
- Crypt vase: Crypt vases are 6½ inches high and made of solid bronze. Each costs $199 plus $50 for installation (they are bolted to a granite crypt plate).
- Niche vase: Niche vases are simply smaller versions (4 ½ inches) of crypt vases. The cost is $149 plus $50 for installation.
- Reproductions of photographs of your loved one can also adorn a crypt or niche. These come in two sizes, and pricing starts at $400.
Cremation
Cremated remains can be placed in crypts and given a traditional ground burial.
At the Riverside Mausoleum, cremated remains may also be put in urns that are placed in recessed chambers called niches. Like a crypt, the niche is secured with an inscribed granite closure.
Additional niches are located in granite walls called a columbarium. The niches in the columbarium start at $1100 each, which includes engraving and perpetual care. Riverside has added a larger columbarium, similar to the one at Mt. Hope, both of which accommodate two urns per niche (urn size permitting). Pricing begins at only $1,600. Each niche includes a bronze memorial plaque.
Ask about our memorial benches which can be engraved with the name and dates of the deceased to serve as a monument to them.
Ground burial
A ground burial requires you to purchase a plot, a vault and a marker.
- Mt. Hope and Riverside both have many ground options available. Select from traditional four or eight grave lots, double-deep lawn crypts, side-by-side plots, cremation plots, or single grave sections. Riverside is also proud to provide discounted burial space in our Veterans section to all honorably discharged Veterans. Please ask about the adjacent Veterans Reserve section set aside specifically for Veterans and their spouse.
- Mt. Hope and Riverside are full service memorial providers. We sell upright granite monuments and both bronze and granite grass markers. Pricing starts at just $494 including foundation and installation. (Monuments are also sold at monument dealers)
- Granite benches that mark two or more graves are also available at the cemetery.
- Granite cremation benches hold three to four ash burials and are sold by the cemeteries.
- Vaults are purchased at funeral homes.
Scattering Gardens
Mount Hope Cemetery offers a Scattering Garden where a person's remains can be scattered with respect and dignity. A memorial wall is available for the remembrance of a family's loved one. Whether scattered in the garden or anywhere else, a permanent memorial fulfills a family's need for visitation and remembrance.
Work has begun to add a carefully planned scattering garden in Section W at Riverside Cemetery.
