The Literature area of the department includes a number of special collections and subjects:

American Sign Language materials available in video, software, and print formats
Biographies of Authors, Poets, Journalists, Philosophers and Religious Figures
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Books, Cassettes, and Videos
Fiction in both hardcover and paperback
GED materials to assist in preparing for the General Educational Development exams
Language materials in more than 90 languages
Library Science
Literacy materials in print, audio and video formats
Literary criticism - Over 6,000 titles
Literary reference, including Book Review Digest 1905-present, Contemporary Literary Criticism and many other resources
Materials for writers - Books and videos on how to write and how to get published
Quotations - Books to search for quotations by topic or by author
Philosophy texts and reference sources such as the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy
Religion includes resources on all major world religions as well as many other religions
Teen fiction

The Media section of the department includes:

Audio visual materials in both DVD and VHS formats, from popular titles to documentaries, non-fiction titles, and educational videos, as well as foreign films from more than 40 countries and a Spanish Video Section.
Audio books: fiction, religion, plays and poetry on cassette and CD; also some on MP3CD.
Audiovisual Equipment Rental. Call (585) 428-8360 for slide projector, 8mm and 16mm film projectors, and projection screens. A 24-hour notice is required for all equipment rental reservations.

Computer Center
The Computer Center has computers with Microsoft Office software, a scanner, and printers that print both color and black-and-white and oversize. A typewriter is also available for use.
