News Release - Mayor Duffy Launches First 2009 Cool Sweep

City of Rochester

News Release

(July 27, 2009) - Mayor Robert J. Duffy will kick off the first Cool Sweep operation of the 2009 summer season tomorrow, July 28, in anticipation of temperatures that are expected to exceed 85 degrees.

Cool Sweep is a public-safety and customer-service program to help city residents who have limited opportunities to find relief from summer heat. A Cool Sweep operation is triggered when the forecast calls for a day to reach 85 degrees, which the National Weather Service in Buffalo has done for tomorrow. The 2009 program began on June 29 with the start of the Rochester City School District’s summer recess.

With Cool Sweep, I hope they will have some fun in the process.”
