November 7, 2009, 10:30 a.m. to noon.  Do you have a child in your life who is fascinated with nature, medicine, chemistry, or other scientific activities? Check out the Family Science Day scheduled at Phillis Wheatley Community Library, located at 33 Dr. Samuel McCree Way, Rochester, NY.

Targeted at families with young children, Family Science Day uses science and literacy to encourage parent involvement in learning at home. Volunteer scientists guide children through simple experiments, and the first 30 families to register are given a science kit to take home. The scientists use experiments and related literature to teach the children about such things as germs, nutrition, oral hygiene, and slime.

The free take-home kit includes science experiments to conduct at home and three free books - The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh and Germs! Germs! Germs! by Bobbi Katz. The event is a cooperative effort by the Rochester Preschool-Parent Program, the Rochester Literacy Movement, and the Rochester Public Library. Registration is required and can be done by calling the library at (585) 428-8212.

Family Science Day Schedule:
March 20, 2010 - Winton Branch Library, 611 Winton Road North - Call 428-8204 to register.
April 24, 2010 - Maplewood Community Library, 1111 Dewey Avenue - Call 428-8220 to register.
