News Release - Commissioner Carballada Welcomes Luvaboos Baby Boutique to Winton Village Area

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, December 18, 2009) – City of Rochester Neighborhood and Business Development Commissioner R. Carlos Carballada today joined owners Heather and Topher Holt for a ribbon cutting officially welcoming the retail store Luvaboos Baby Boutique to its new home located at 683 N. Winton Road.

The Holts came about their idea for Luvaboos while expecting their first child. Finding that it was difficult to find a natural parenting and baby store and encountering a void in prenatal and early childhood classes in one central location, the Holts opened Luvaboos to offer natural baby items and a safe place to bring babies for playgroups and classes. Luvaboos offers a place where new mothers can meet to discuss child-rearing and postpartum issues.

“Luvaboos will provide merchandise and services to a growing niche market,” said Carballada. “We are pleased to welcome Mr. and Ms. Holt and their unique store to our community and we are grateful for their partnership in the revitalization of the Winton Village neighborhood.”

Before opening at this location, Heather ran the business for over almost two years as an on-line store from her home. The Holts removed the old finishes and added new flooring and façade, complete with professionally-designed mosaics. A family affair, Heather’s mother is a custom design finisher who created much of the artwork and finishes for the new space.

Luvaboos offers education for parents and kids, and helps parents make informed economic and environmentally-friendly decisions about their purchases. Additionally, Luvaboos will offer classes on prenatal yoga, toddler art, infant massage, music and much more. In addition, Luvaboos is the only store in Rochester that carries new styles of cloth diapers as well as many mom-invented baby carriers and other difficult-to-find products.

The Holts hope to employ a few other local parents by next summer, offering employees a safe atmosphere where they can bring their young children to work, creating a better quality of life for themselves and their families.

“We have always appreciated the Winton Village area,” said Heather Holt. “The neighborhood is becoming more family friendly all the time and we see a lot of potential in the growth and diversity of the area. We absolutely love what we do, helping other parents discover the things we have come to love and find useful. Creating a unique environment to raise our children is very fulfilling. We hope to inspire other young families to do the same.”
