City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, July 29, 2010) — Donations are now being accepted for the 2nd Annual Cardboard City Lock-Out. The event’s youth organizers are requesting that businesses, agencies, faith-based organizations and community members donate material items or gift cards to the Cardboard City effort. Donations will be distributed among the Center for Youth, Crisis Nursery of Greater Rochester, House of Mercy and Alternatives for Battered Women.

Youth from the City’s Bureau of Recreation’s Youth Voice, One Vision program and the Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau’s Youth as Resources initiative will take part in the Cardboard City Lock-Out event at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 13. The youth will create a “city” out of cardboard in Washington Square Park in downtown Rochester and spend the night outside. This simulation will bring attention to the issue of homelessness in Rochester and Monroe County.

Donations are accepted at the City Recreation Administrative Office, on 400 Dewey Ave. 14613 and at all City recreation centers. Monetary donations are also welcome. Make checks payable to Coordinated Care Services, Inc. and mail to: Youth as Resources, 435 East Henrietta Rd, Faith-3-West, Rochester, NY 14620.
