Deputy Fire Chief Teresa Everett Accepts Appointment as Fire Chief in Atlanta, GA Suburb

(Friday, September 10, 2010) – Deputy Chief Teresa Everett today accepted the position of Fire Chief in College Park, Georgia effective October 4, 2010. The Deputy Chief has been under consideration for this post since July, 2010 and recently accepted their offer.

“This is a big loss for the City of Rochester but a tremendous gain for College Park,” said Mayor Robert J. Duffy. “Teresa’s leadership ability has led to her securing the top firefighting post in her new assignment. We are proud that she will be one of the few female Fire Chiefs in the country. I want to thank Teresa for her leadership role in coordinating training for the Rochester Fire Department and especially for her efforts to improve diversity throughout all emergency services within the City.”

“Deputy Chief Everett will be greatly missed. As the Deputy Chief in charge of training, as well as her work leading the Public Safety Diversity Project, her efforts to improve and diversify the Rochester Fire Department are critically important, in my opinion,” said City Council President Lovely A. Warren. “We all wish her the best of luck in her new position, and acknowledge that our loss is Georgia’s gain.”
“I commend Deputy Chief Everett on her professionalism and dedication,” added Fire Chief John Caufield. “Under Teresa’s guidance and initiative, we have made progress in providing greater diversity throughout all first responder services. A focus of her efforts has been to help prepare more young minority candidates for a career in emergency services. For this we are grateful.”

“As Coordinator of the training efforts within the Rochester Fire Department, Deputy Chief Everett’s departure represents a tremendous loss for our community,” added Dr. Andrew Turner, Chief of Customer Satisfaction and Performance Accountability. “All of us at City Hall wish Teresa success in her new leadership role.”
