News Release

(Friday, Oct. 8, 2010) – Luis Burgos, Commissioner of the Department of Recreation and Youth Services kicked off River Romance 2010 today, announcing the official schedule of events during a news conference at the corner of Clifford and Conkey Avenues. The ceremony also served as a ribbon-cutting for a new play area near the head of the El Camino trail made possible by the Genesee Land Trust.

Running October 8 through October 10, River Romance this year highlights Rochester’s return to the river, with a focus on impressive new development along the waterfront. River Romance offers a cornucopia of events and activities focused on the river’s ecology and history that will both inform and inspire.

“River Romance is a really special event that showcases our beautiful natural amenities,” said Burgos. “There is an abundance of things to do along the river this weekend and you cannot find a more family friendly atmosphere.”

This weekend is expected to draw more than 20,000 visitors to participate in nearly 50 different activities along the 13-mile stretch of the Genesee River Corridor. The weekend also offers an opportunity to discover the many unique restaurants and businesses located along the city’s scenic waterways.
