(Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010) – Mayor Robert J. Duffy today named Tassie R. Demps, a 20-year veteran of City government, as Director of the Bureau of Human Resource Management. Director Demps has served in the Bureau for more than 18 years, most recently as the Affirmative Action Officer. She joined City government in 1990 as a Purchasing Control Clerk, an entry-level position in the Purchasing Department.
“Tassie Demps is a woman who has risen through the ranks of this organization and knows from first-hand experience what is required to provide our customers the very best service possible,” said Mayor Duffy. “Through her years of service, she has repeatedly demonstrated her commitment to developing the most diverse and talented workforce possible. She is uniquely qualified to lead this Bureau in this challenging fiscal environment, when our employees are being asked every day to do more with less.”
“It is my great honor and privilege to accept this appointment and I want to thank Mayor Duffy for this wonderful opportunity,” said Director Demps. “This appointment is a chance to return the blessings of the experience and personal growth I have gained over the years here and help lead this organization into the future.”
Director Demps pledged to be an agent of change and innovation as the City workforce continues to seek ways to reduce the cost of government while improving customer service. “In today’s municipal work environment, the only thing you can count on is change,” Director Demps said. “But the one thing that will never change is the need for a diverse and talented workforce. Our employees always have been and will remain our most important asset. I look forward to working with the senior managers in every department as we continue to develop and improve the talents of our employees so that we always remain in a position to seize opportunity from each new challenge that confronts us.”
Director Demps lives in Rochester’s 19th Ward Neighborhood with her husband James, and has two children. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
