City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011) – Bret Garwood, the City’s Acting Commissioner of Neighborhood and Business Development, and City Councilmember Jackie Ortiz officially welcomed Triple Deuces Bar & Grill to Rochester’s St. Paul Quarter today during a ceremonial ribbon cutting with owner Anthony Nunez. In celebrating the grand opening of the restaurant at 143 St. Paul St. downtown, Acting Commissioner Garwood noted the contributions of industrious entrepreneurs to making downtown a vibrant destination.

"Rochester is fortunate to have people willing to venture into business here,” Garwood said. “They realize that downtown is a growth area and that downtown is the place to be for good food and good fun. We welcome Triple Deuces and wish Mr. Nunez and his team the best of luck.”

Nunez has dreamed of opening his own restaurant ever since moving to Rochester from Harlem, NY during high school. He worked for the Rochester Fire Department, going through the Firefighter Trainee Program before serving in the United States Marines and the United States Air Force Reserve. He was deployed to Iraq in 2003 and 2007.

To realize his dream, he has invested $90,000 in personal funds to open the firefighting-themed restaurant, which has created 25 jobs. Triple Deuces Bar and Grill is open for lunch and dinner seven days-a-week. After 7 p.m., admission is reserved for those over 21 years old. Food is served until 2 a.m.
