Swimming Lessons

The City of Rochester Bureau of Recreation encourages all city youth and adults to become skilled swimmers and seize the opportunity to enjoy the water.  

Through its Swim Academy, the City of Rochester Bureau of Recreation offers free youth swim lessons throughout the year. Adult lessons are sometimes offered as well, as is Lifeguarding Training each spring (call 428-7888 or 428-7456 for more information).  


Summer Swim Academy

Summer Swim Academy offers free swim lessons at six different skill levels for youth 6-17 and low-priced lessons for adults.
Half-hour daytime lesson times vary between 9 and 11:30 a.m., Monday – Thursday, based on skill level and enrollment. Evening sessions run from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Two youth sessions are available:
Session 1: July 7-25; register by June 30
Session 2: July 28-August 15; registrations accepted July 1- July 20
Students may register for only one session. Registration is first come, first served. Students enrolled from Session 1 may re-enroll for Session 2 between July 13-20 if spots are available.

Lessons are conducted at several indoor and outdoor pools around the city.
