2013 Winter Games
Rochester is extremely proud to host the Special Olympics of New York's Winter Games for the second year in a row. The Games will take place Feb. 22-24, 2013. The following is only an overview of the many activities planned for this
Friday, Feb. 22
Opening Ceremonies start at 8 p.m. at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Watch the athletes parade into the ceremony and hear Mayor Thomas S. Richard's welcoming remarks. If you have never been to an Opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympics, you cannot miss this event- it is truly remarkable!
Saturday, Feb. 23
Come and cheer on the athletes in 6 Olympic-style sports:
Please note that the times are subject to change due to competition. Sometimes, events end earlier than planned, so we encourage you to come at the beginning so that you definitely have something to cheer on!
Be a Fan in the Stands!
The athletes need your support! Consider volunteering at the Special Olympics by being a Fan in the Stands!
Steps to being a fan:
- Choose a competition you are interested in.
- Report to Volunteer Registration and you will be checked in as a “FAN”.
- Go create a sign or banner at our “Fan Stations” that are available at each location.
- GO CHEER on the athletes and have a GREAT time!!
