City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, May 10, 2012) – Mayor Thomas S. Richards, City Council President Lovely A. Warren and City Council Vice President Dana Miller joined owner Dr. Neil R. Scheier to officially celebrate the grand opening of Your Local Pharmacy at 780 Joseph Ave. today.

The newest neighborhood pharmacy and drug store in the city’s northeast quadrant opened in March. Your Local Pharmacy offers prescribed and over-the-counter medication, retail items including medical supplies, toiletries, convenience items and health and beauty products. The store is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The pharmacy is located in a new, 2,400 square foot building -- at the corner of Joseph Avenue and Berlin Street – that sits on property previously owned by the City that contained a vacant, two-story building. The City issued a Request for Proposals for a future use for the property and chose Dr. Scheier’s proposal for the construction of a local pharmacy/drug store. The sale of the property to Dr. Scheier was approved by the Rochester City Council in September 2010 and the structure was demolished in April 2011.

Your Local Pharmacy offers friendly service, a convenient location and free delivery. “We are small and independently owned so we can offer personal service,” said Dr. Scheier. “There are few other pharmacies in the area and we will be known for our low prices on prescriptions and a wide variety of healthcare supplies and cosmetics.”

Dr. Scheier also owns an internal medicine practice located in Clifton Springs and founded Armstrong Senior Living in Newark, NY and Vienna Gardens Senior Living in Phelps. He was a healthcare consultant for Binghamton General Hospital, a Research Associate at the University Center at Binghamton and worked in marketing administration at Proctor & Gamble. He is published in numerous peer-reviewed scientific journals and has received both ethics and physician quality awards.

More than $600,000 was invested in the opening of Your Local Pharmacy. The store has created 6 full-time equivalent jobs.
