Buckingham Properties Office: Nov. 30, 2012

The Buckingham Properties team has settled into their new corporate office at 259 Alexander St. in Alexander Park. The $1.4 million office project involved the purchase of the building, the gutting and renovation of the interior and the improvement of the exterior façade — garnering LEED Silver standards.

Four new positions will be added to the team's current 39 employees. Previously located at 1 South Washington St., the new office is now located near Buckingham's Alexander Park development, an anticipated $83 million mixed-use campus located on the former Genesee Hospital site. Read more.




RTS Transit Center: Nov. 20, 2012 

Scheduled to open in mid-2015, the new RTS Transit Center will move Downtown bus traffic to an enclosed, state-of-the-art facility spanning an entire block on Mortimer Street. The 87,000 square foot, fully accessible building will serve upwards of 50,000 passengers per day throughout 26 bus bays.

“The Transit Center is a vital component of our vision for Downtown’s revitalization,” said Mayor Thomas S. Richards. The $50 million project is expected to create more than 400 construction-related jobs, and nearly 50 new jobs once the facility is operational. Read more.



Frederick Douglass Apartments: Nov. 20, 2012

Home Leasing, LLC, the Rochester Housing Authority, and Edgemere Development, Inc., have given new life to an old building in the Historic Susan B. Anthony Neighborhood with the opening of the Frederick Douglass Apartments, located at 442 West Main St.

The Frederick Douglass Apartments are part of the expansive rehabilitation of the West Main Street known as the . The attractive facades and first-floor commercial spaces will help bring economic vitality back into this West Main Street gateway to Downtown.

With a focus on affordable housing Home Leasing, LLC, broke ground on this project in the fall of 2011. The rehabilitation for this project was completed through guidelines given from the City of Rochester and the State Historic Preservation Office. Read more.



El Camino II Estates: Nov. 16, 2012

The El Camino II Estates housing development is located near the El Camino Trail in the 14621 Neighborhood. The $6.3 million project includes 25 family housing units for families with 50 percent or less of median income.

Phase I was completed in 2010 and also included 25 units. Both projects are the result of a successful collaboration between the City, Ibero-American Development Corp. (IADC) and Rochester’s Cornerstone Group. El Camino Estates is part of broad revitalization plan that includes a neighborhood planning process initiated by IADC. Read more.



Darn Good Cookie Company: Nov. 12, 2012

Offering custom cookie baskets, boxes and trays to local businesses and residents, the Darn Good Cookie Company, located at 982 Monroe Ave. is more than just cookies--it is an affirmative business that will assist East House clients with job preparedness opportunities.

Since 1966, East House has been helping individuals in recovery with mental illness and/or chemical dependency. The Darn Good Cookie Company directly confronts the high unemployment rate among people in this population enables their participation in the workforce by providing job preparedness to its clients. Read more.



Holley's Cafe & Catering: Nov. 9, 2012

Holley’s Café & Catering recently renovated and expanded its new location at 575 Brooks Ave. to allow more patron seating. Owners John and Audrey Holley recently undertook this expansion to develop their catering business and better serve their present and future customer base.

The restaurant will add unique specialty desserts and an ice cream parlor to the neighborhood, will feature seasonal outside seating and provide a small conference room for business meetings. The City provided a Small Business Matching Grant to the restaurant. Read more.
