News Release - Mayor Thomas S. Richards Announces Recreation Centers to Offer Special Programs During Spring Recess

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, March 27, 2013) – Mayor Thomas S. Richards announced today that the Bureau of Recreation will offer a wide selection of programs and extended hours at many of its community and recreation centers during the spring recess, when children are home from school and parents are at work.

“School breaks are supposed to be a source of favorite childhood memories, but they can also be a source of tremendous stress for working parents who are worried about their children,” said Mayor Richards. “Our community and recreation centers are excellent places to keep kids safe, active and in the presence of caring adults during these gaps in the family schedule. I encourage as many parents as possible to take advantage of these programs and enjoy some peace of mind during the spring recess this year.”

Ten community and recreation centers will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 1 through 6.

These centers are: the Adams Street Community Center and Pool; the Campbell Street Community Center; the Roxie Ann Sinkler Recreation Center; the Thomas P. Ryan Community Center; the David F. Gantt Community Center (at Marketview Lodge during renovation); the Carter Street Community Center; the Avenue D Community Center; the Edgerton Community Center; the Pierpont Recreation Center; and the Flint Street Community Center.

Special programming at the centers during spring recess includes: Egg hunts, basketball clinics and tournaments, whiffle-ball tournaments, ping-pong tournaments, board-game tournaments, video-game tournaments, field trips to the Rochester Museum and Science Center, movie showings and more.

All community and recreation centers will be closed Friday March 29 and Saturday March 30 in observance of the Good Friday holiday. Most recreation centers attached to Rochester City School District school buildings will be closed during the Spring Recess.
