News Release - Mayor Thomas S. Richards Launches 2013 Flower City Looking Good Program

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, April 24, 2013) – Mayor Thomas S. Richards announced today that the Flower City Looking Program (FCLG) has begun its 2013 season, providing area residents and visitors with a host of opportunities to get out and enjoy Rochester’s natural and man-made resources

“Flower City Looking Good is a great way to learn about Rochester and take advantage of the hidden gems that make this city such a great place to live or visit,” said Mayor Richards. “I want to thank our sponsors and all the volunteers who make these programs possible. These fun, family-friendly activities could fill an entire vacation, but you can do them in Rochester without leaving home or taking time off from work.”

FCLG activities include guided bike rides and walks, Downtown lunch tours, a flower giveaway and perennial swap, garden workshops, garden contests and more. Venues include Washington Grove Forest, the Downtown Heritage Trail, High Falls and Middle Falls, City cemeteries, City neighborhoods and the Port of Rochester.

Volunteers lead many of hikes and bike rides, nature walks, history tours and garden workshops. MVP Health Care sponsors the Tuesday night bike rides and Thursday night walks.

Wegmans sponsors the Flower City Kids Picnic and Planting Day, when Rochester school children plant flowers grown in their classroom at Ontario Beach Park. City Newspaper provides printing and distribution of the brochure.
