City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, June 4, 2013) – Mayor Thomas S. Richards announced today that the Windstream Party in the Park concert series will kick off Thursday with Blues Traveler and special guests The Blind Spots and Subsoil.

Windstream Party in the Park will take place every Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 8 at the Riverside Festival Site at the corner of Court and Exchange streets. The popular outdoor concert series brings more than 20 national and international music acts to Downtown Rochester.

“Windstream Party in the Park has grown into one of the most prominent features on the extensive list of ‘must do’ events of a Rochester summer,” said Mayor Richards. “I want to thank Gerard Fisher and Dan Smalls for putting together a great program of music and activities for the 2013 season, and I want to thank all of our sponsors for reinforcing Rochester’s standing as the entertainment capital of our region. I am particularly grateful to Windstream for once again demonstrating its commitment to Downtown Rochester by taking on the role of presenting sponsor.”

Seventeen years after their Grammy Award winning, harmonica-laced Billboard Top 10 breakthrough hit “Run-Around” helped define pop music in the mid-90s; Blues Traveler is still performing their standard hits along with music from their new album, “Suzie Cracks the Whip.”

Ithaca-based The Blind Spots will also perform. This all-original, female-fronted, five-piece band is creating a buzz in its hometown and throughout the region. The Rochester-based, Subsoil will start the night with its cutting edge hip-hop fusion.

New to Windstream Party in the Park this year will be a “village” area with a premium seating section, an art-gallery tent to go along with local food trucks and local beverage options and street performers including Riley Schillaci, Amanda Ashley and Kozy Soul.

General admission to Windstream Party in the Park is $2 and free for children under 12. Admission for the expanded seating area is an additional $3 for all ages.

Tickets may be purchased online at Ticketmaster with an associated service fee, or at the Blue Cross Arena with no service fees. Tickets are also available at the gate. The 10-week “party passes” are still available and provide a saving of $5 off the purchase price of all 10 nights of the series.

Parking is available on-street and at nearby parking garages, including the Court Street Garage, 194 Court St. and the Sister Cities Garage, 28 S. Fitzhugh St.

Windstream Party in the Park is sponsored by the City of Rochester with corporate support from Windstream, Genesee Brewing Company, Rohrbach Brewing Company, Labatts Blue Light, Nathaniel’s Pub, Rochester Contemporary Art Center, 96.5 WCMF, 92,5 WBEE, 98PXY, 98.9 The Buzz.
