News Release

(Tuesday, July 16, 2013) – Mayor Thomas S. Richards announced today that Great Big Sea with special guests Carbon Leaf and Sisters of Murphy will be performing at Windstream Party in the Park Thursday.

Windstream Party in the Park will take place every Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 8 at the Riverside Festival Site at the corner of Court and Exchange streets. The popular outdoor concert series brings more than 20 national and international music acts to Downtown Rochester.

“Windstream Party in the Park has grown into one of the most prominent features on the extensive list of ‘must do’ events of a Rochester summer,” said Mayor Richards. “I want to thank promoters Gerard Fisher and Dan Smalls for putting together a great program of music and activities for the 2013 season, and I want to thank all of our sponsors for reinforcing Rochester’s standing as the entertainment capital of our region. I am particularly grateful to Windstream for once again demonstrating its commitment to Downtown Rochester by taking on the role of presenting sponsor.”

The Canadian folk-rock band Great Big Sea has maintained an unswerving commitment to their original and creative sound for more than 20 years since their first gig in 1993. Great Big Sea is best known for their energetic rock interpretations which draw on folk songs from their Newfoundland heritage of Irish, Scottish, and Cornish traditions.

Virginia natives Carbon Leaf weave their signature indie-rock blend of Celtic, Appalachian, folk and country into a rousing new brand of music with a wide array of instruments, like the bouzouki, fiddle, accordion and penny whistle.

Sisters of Murphy, one of Rochester's favorite Celtic rock groups, will be performing popular covers and memorable originals.

New to Windstream Party in the Park this year is a premium seating section, an art-gallery tent, local food trucks, local beverage options and street performers including Riley Schillaci, Amanda Ashley and Kozy Soul.

General admission to Windstream Party in the Park is $2 and free for children under 12. Admission for the expanded seating area is an additional $3 for all ages.

Tickets may be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com with an associated service fee, or at the Blue Cross Arena with no service fee. Tickets are also available at the gate.

Parking is available on-street and at nearby parking garages, including the Court Street Garage, 194 Court St. and the Sister Cities Garage, 28 S. Fitzhugh St.

Windstream Party in the Park is sponsored by the City of Rochester with corporate support from Windstream, Genesee Brewing Company, Rohrbach Brewing Company, Labatts Blue Light, Nathaniel’s Pub, Rochester Contemporary Art Center, 96.5 WCMF, 92,5 WBEE, 98PXY, 98.9 The Buzz.
