News Release

(Tuesday, July 23, 2013) – Mayor Thomas S. Richards announced today that Leon Russell with special guests Driftwood and The Deep Blue Dream will be performing at Windstream Party in the Park Thursday.

Windstream Party in the Park will take place every Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 8 at the Riverside Festival Site at the corner of Court and Exchange streets. The popular outdoor concert series brings more than 20 national and international music acts to Downtown Rochester.

“Windstream Party in the Park has grown into one of the most prominent features on the extensive list of ‘must do’ events of a Rochester summer,” said Mayor Richards. “I want to thank promoters Gerard Fisher and Dan Smalls for putting together a great program of music and activities for the 2013 season, and I want to thank all of our sponsors for reinforcing Rochester’s standing as the entertainment capital of our region. I am particularly grateful to Windstream for once again demonstrating its commitment to Downtown Rochester by taking on the role of presenting sponsor.”

Leon Russell from Tulsa, Okla. has been performing his gospel-infused southern boogie piano rock, blues, and country music for over 50 years. Russell has performed and toured with many great musicians such as George Harrison, Willie Nelson and Sir Elton John. Russell was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and given the Award for Recording Excellence in March 2011.

Coming out of Binghamton, N.Y. in 2005, Driftwood is a rock band at heart. Fusing old-time sounds with modern rock and roll they bring a unique and raw sound to the Americana/Roots scene.

The Deep Blue Dream is a dynamic fusion of five musicians encompassing a variety of styles ranging from blues, rock, jazz, funk, and soul.

New to Windstream Party in the Park this year is a premium seating section, an art-gallery tent, local food trucks, local beverage options and street performers including Riley Schillaci, Amanda Ashley and Kozy Soul.

General admission to Windstream Party in the Park is $2 and free for children under 12. Admission for the expanded seating area is an additional $3 for all ages.

Tickets may be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com with an associated service fee, or at the Blue Cross Arena with no service fee. Tickets are also available at the gate.

Parking is available on-street and at nearby parking garages, including the Court Street Garage, 194 Court St. and the Sister Cities Garage, 28 S. Fitzhugh St.

Windstream Party in the Park is sponsored by the City of Rochester with corporate support from Windstream, Genesee Brewing Company, Rohrbach Brewing Company, Labatts Blue Light, Nathaniel’s Pub, Rochester Contemporary Art Center, 96.5 WCMF, 92,5 WBEE, 98PXY, 98.9 The Buzz.
