City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, August 2, 2013) – Mayor Thomas S. Richards announced today that the Veggie Valet service has returned to the Rochester Public Market, 280 North Union St., on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the summer. Designed specifically to assist shoppers in carting their purchases from the main Market area to parked cars, Veggie Valet’s are a popular service on busy Market days.

Veggie Valets are young men and women who participant in job development programs at the Center for Youth Services and are being mentored and supervised by the Friends of the Rochester Public Market. “This program is yet another example of successful community collaboration. Not only does it present an excellent opportunity for youth to build their customer service and communication skills, it allows shoppers to purchase from local vendors with ease, and benefits our local economy,” said Mayor Richards. “Thank you Councilmember Elaine Spaull, the Center for Youth Services and the young men and women participating in this program.”

Executive Director of the Center for Youth Services and City Councilmember Elaine Spaull, appreciates the opportunity provided to these young people and added that, “Summer employment, especially in such a positive environment with terrific partners, can make a real impact on our young people. This experience is another win-win for our community.”

Market shoppers can stop at the Friends Red Tent located at the North Union Street Market entryway on Saturdays and drop off their purchases with Veggie Valets, who will keep watch over purchases while customers continue to shop. When their shopping is complete, all of the bags are collected and delivered to the shoppers vehicle. On Thursdays, the valets will be available at the Market office or by calling 428-6907.
