News Release - Neighborhood Input Sought on Center City Master Plan Update

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013) – Mayor Thomas S. Richards announced today that City planners will visit four quadrants and Downtown in November and December to share proposed content for the updated Center City Master Plan (CCMP) and seek further insight from stakeholders before the final document is completed next year.

“This final round of community outreach activities will help us ensure that the Center City Master Plan includes the perspective of broad cross-section of city residents and Downtown stakeholders,” said Mayor Richards. “Downtown Rochester is everybody’s neighborhood and our blueprint for its growth must account for that.”

The City Department of Neighborhood and Business Development is in the process of updating the CCMP, which was adopted in 2002. The updated plan will be used to produce a relevant roadmap for Downtown development and help Rochester seek state and federal funding for important public infrastructure projects.

The CCMP Neighborhood Outreach Forums are the final component in a series of community-outreach activities that have been used to draft the CCMP update over the past year. Other outreach events have included an online survey, focus groups and an open house in City Hall.

The CCMP Neighborhood Outreach Forums will begin Nov. 7. The four quadrant forums will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and begin with a 30-minute open house, at which members of the public can view large-format excerpts from the Draft CCMP and chat with members of City staff. At 6 p.m. a brief formal presentation on the CCMP will be followed by a question-and-answer session, along with additional time to view the displays.

The final Downtown forum will begin at 4:30 p.m. and have a 90-minute open house prior to the start of the formal presentation.

Proposed content for the update will be posted on the City website that day for those who cannot attend at www.cityofrochester.gov/centercity.

Comment forms will be distributed and comment can also be emailed to City planners through the CCMP webpage. The deadline to submit suggestions for the final CCMP is Dec. 31.

The schedule for CCMP Neighborhood Outreach Forums is:
• Northwest Quadrant: Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Northwest Neighborhood Service Center, 71 Parkway
• Southwest Quadrant, Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Adams Street Community Center, 85 Adams St.;
• Northeast Quadrant: Wednesday, Nov. 13 at the Northeast Neighborhood Service Center, 500 Norton St.;
• Southeast Quadrant, Thursday, Nov. 14 at Monroe High School Auditorium, 164 Alexander St.;
• Downtown: Wednesday, Dec. 11, Manhattan Square Park Lodge, 353 Court St.
