News Release

(Wednesday, July 9, 2014) – Yonder Mountain String Band featuring Jake Jolliff and Allie Kral and Railroad Earth will perform at Windstream Party in the Park on Thursday, July 10. Local musician, Declan Ryan will provide the opening act.

Every Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 14 at Martin Luther King Jr. Park at Manhattan Square at the corner of Court and Chestnut Streets, the popular outdoor concert series brings more than 20 national and international music acts to Downtown Rochester.

Yonder Mountain String Band and Railroad Earth defy genre categories. Though highly influenced by bluegrass styles, both bands draw from their own experiences and other genres to develop their unique sounds. Yonder Mountain String Band is originally from Colorado and is known for its humor and “anything goes” attitude. With its roots in an informal club arrangement in the late 90s, this band has come far, even opening for Barack Obama at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Jake Jolliff has performed on mandolin as a member of Joy Kills Sorrow over the past few years and joins Yonder Mountain String Band for a string of concerts this summer.

Allie Kral is a talented fiddle artist and former member of Cornmeal who has shared the stage with Moe., Railroad Earth, Trampled By Turtles, Leftover Salmon and many more.

Railroad Earth from New Jersey with their use of amplifiers and drums, certainly stands apart in the bluegrass world. Far from fretting about traditional labels, they crisscross North America with the mission to create remarkable music.

Rochester native, Declan Ryan is a songwriter and Rock and Roll artist that often performs with the band Close Calls and will be opening for tomorrow’s concert.

The Genesee Brewery Bowl Stage, a small secondary stage located in the amphitheatre area of the park, will feature local bands that will play each week during set breaks on the main stage. This week, Upward Groove takes the Genesee Brewery Bowl stage.
Food trucks and local beer will be on site for concert goers’ enjoyment and families can access the park’s playground. No chairs are allowed, but attendees are welcome to bring blankets.

General admission to Windstream Party in the Park is $5 and free for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at the gate, online at Ticketmaster.com with an associated service fee, or at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial with no service fee. Please note that concert goers must pay with cash if tickets are purchased at the gate.

Parking is available at nearby parking garages, including the Washington Square Garage, 111 Woodbury Boulevard; Court Street Garage, corner of South Avenue and Court Street; East End Garage, 475 E. Main Street; and HSBC Garage, 100 Chestnut Street (enter on Broad Street side). The Strong museum parking lot is also an option for a $7 fee beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the day of the event and closing at 10:30 p.m. No tailgating is allowed in any of the garages or lots.
