News Release

(Wednesday, July 16, 2014) – Trampled by Turtles with special guests Dirty Dozen Brass Band and the Prickers will perform at Windstream Party in the Park on Thursday, July 17.

Every Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 14 at Martin Luther King Jr. Park at Manhattan Square at the corner of Court and Chestnut Streets, the popular outdoor concert series brings more than 20 national and international music acts to Downtown Rochester.

From Duluth, Minnesota, Trampled by Turtles delivers a unique hybrid folk music experience to its audience with sounds and lyrics rooted in a deep respect for uncivilized nature and life’s impermanence. Lyrically, the band taps into the different ways that humans seek to explain the unexplainable, like loss, change and rebirth, accompanied by the sounds of banjo, bass, mandolin and fiddle.

Dirty Dozen Brass Band was born of the New Orleans Dirty Dozen Social and Pleasure Club in the 70s and has since become world famous for their jubilant dance tunes and high-energy, genre-blending performances. The seven band members build a bridge between new and old, playing brass band classics, original composition and even cover songs like Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music.”

The Prickers are a bluegrass-inspired band from Naples, NY. While their group may include traditional instruments like banjo and mandolin, their inclusion of brass instruments puts a twist on the existing genre.

The Genesee Brewery Bowl Stage, a small secondary stage located in the amphitheatre area of the park, will feature local bands that will play each week during set breaks on the main stage. This week, Younger Gang takes the Genesee Brewery Bowl stage.

Food trucks and local beer will be on site for concert goers’ enjoyment and families can access the park’s playground. No chairs are allowed, but attendees are welcome to bring blankets.

General admission to Windstream Party in the Park is $5 and free for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at the gate until 9:30 p.m., online at Ticketmaster.com with an associated service fee, or at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial with no service fee. Please note that concert goers must pay with cash if tickets are purchased at the gate.

Parking is available at nearby parking garages, including the Washington Square Garage, 111 Woodbury Boulevard; Court Street Garage, corner of South Avenue and Court Street; East End Garage, 475 E. Main Street; and HSBC Garage, 100 Chestnut Street (enter on Broad Street side). The Strong museum parking lot is also an option for a $7 fee beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the day of the event and closing at 10:30 p.m. No tailgating is allowed in any of the garages or lots.

Windstream Party in the Park is sponsored by the City of Rochester with corporate support from Windstream, Alex and Ani, The Strong, Clear Channel Media + Entertainment, City Paper and North American Breweries.
