City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, July 22, 2014) – The new Art/Life performance series will continue at 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 22 at the Merriman/University Park Playground, with Mounafanyi West African Dance. Art/Life is an initiative in cooperation with the Multi-Use Cultural Community Center (MuCCC) and Young Audiences that will bring family-friendly “pop-up” performing arts experiences into neighborhood parks and playgrounds throughout July and August. Over the course of eight performances, many types of performing arts will be represented including storytelling, dance, theatre, wildlife exhibits, DJ’ing and more. All performances are free.

“We are blooming as a City of the Arts,” said Mayor Warren. “It is my mission to deliver artistic experiences to the residents of our neighborhoods. Improving the vitality of our neighborhoods improves the health of our city.”

Art/Life’s dynamic experiences aim to decentralize the concentration of performing arts in Rochester’s Center City, pushing art beyond the walls of established institutions and rendering it more accessible to people throughout each of the quadrants.
