City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, July 23, 2014) – Lucero with special guests The Baseball Project and Mambo Kings will perform at Windstream Party in the Park on Thursday, July 24.

Every Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 14 at Martin Luther King Jr. Park at Manhattan Square at the corner of Court and Chestnut Streets, the popular outdoor concert series brings more than 20 national and international music acts to Downtown Rochester.

Combining horns, pedal steel guitar, keyboards and accordion, Lucero is a country-punk rock band from Memphis that specializes in the soul and audacity of each genre. One of their hit songs, “On My Way Downtown” begins with contemplative vocals, but then takes off in a surprise twist with a lively beat that commands the audience to dance.

The Baseball Project is a baseball enthusiast rock group drawing its members from the ranks of R.E.M., The Dream Syndicate and other bands. Their latest album 3rd, features songs about legendary and lesser-known players alike including Babe Ruth, Cy Young and Pascual Perez in a musical repertoire that is as much fun for the audience as it is for the band.

Mambo Kings fuse Afro-Cuban rhythm and contemporary jazz in their original compositions and arrangements. They have performed across the country from Rochester, New York to Portland, Oregon.

The Genesee Brewery Bowl Stage, a small secondary stage located in the amphitheatre area of the park, will feature local bands that will play each week during set breaks on the main stage. This week, Moon Zombies takes the Genesee Brewery Bowl stage.

Food trucks and local beer will be on site for concert goers’ enjoyment and families can access the park’s playground. No chairs are allowed, but attendees are welcome to bring blankets.

General admission to Windstream Party in the Park is $5 and free for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at the gate until 9:30 p.m., online at Ticketmaster.com with an associated service fee, or at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial with no service fee. Please note that concert goers must pay with cash if tickets are purchased at the gate.
