Description:

The International Sister Cities of Rochester, NY, Inc. (ISCOR), will host a fundraising reception featuring Dominican food specialties, music and dancing for the Puerto Plata Firefighters Assistance Project. Mayor Lovely Warren and Fire Chief John Schreiber will join the Puerto Plata Sister Cities Committee for the event.

In 2013, the Firefighters Assistance Project shipped 10 tons of surplus firefighting equipment donated by regional fire departments and a surplus Rural Metro Ambulance to the Puerto Plata Fire Department in the Dominican Republic. Puerto Plata firefighters also participated in training with the RFD and shared the training and donated equipment with 29 fire departments in the Puerto Plata region. This reception will raise funds to ship additional equipment.

ISCOR is a non-profit organization whose volunteers operate under the honorary leadership of the Mayor. It manages the twelve sister city relationships around the world that the Rochester City Council has approved. Rochester’s program was established in 1958 and is affiliated with the national organization Sister Cities International. Rochester’s commitment to citizen diplomacy and global understanding has since been perpetuated in cultural, educational, humanitarian aid and business projects and exchanges.
