News Release - City to Install Pilot Routes, Hold “Pop Up” Meetings in Support of its Bicycle Boulevards Plan

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, Sept. 26, 2014) – The City will conduct two “pop-up” public meetings next week to discuss the preliminary recommendations of the Rochester Bicycle Boulevards Plan.

The meetings will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., on Wednesday, October 1 at two outdoor locations along potential bicycle boulevard routes. The meeting locations will be at Aberdeen Square Park, 330 Post Avenue, in the 19th Ward; and along the Genesee Riverway Trail at the Averill Avenue entrance to Genesee Gateway Park in the South Wedge.

Bicycle Boulevards provide bicyclists established alternatives to riding on streets that cannot easily accommodate bicycle lanes because of such conditions as high vehicle traffic, high parking demand or narrow rights of way.

Both pop-up meetings will be located along pilot one-mile Bicycle Boulevard routes that the City will install using temporary signage, markings, and speed cushions.

  • The 19th Ward pilot route will extend from Ravenwood Avenue at Genesee Park Boulevard to Frost Avenue at Rugby Avenue.
  • The South Wedge pilot route will run from the Genesee Riverway Trail at Averill Avenue to Meigs Street at Monroe Avenue.

Feedback received at these meetings will be used to further refine the routes and prioritization, resulting in a final Rochester Bicycle Boulevards Plan in fall 2014.

Members of the public who are unable to attend the meeting but would like to submit comments may send them via email to Erik Frisch, Project Manager (erik.frisch@cityofrochester.gov) by Friday, October 10, 2014.

Additional project information is available on the City’s web site at: www.cityofrochester.gov/bikeblvd.
