Mayor Warren Invites Families to City R-Centers for an Evening of Halloween Fun  


(Tuesday, October 28, 2014) –
Mayor Lovely A. Warren invites city youth and families to have some spirited fun and receive free books from select R-Centers this Halloween.

“Halloween is one of the most highly anticipated days of the year for many kids,” said Mayor Warren. “We are excited to offer a variety of free events at our R-Centers where kids can dress up, grab some treats and have a safe and fun time.”

The R-Centers’ free Halloween events on Friday, October 31 are as follows:

• South Avenue R-Center, 999 South Ave. From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., youth ages 6 to 13 are invited to a Halloween celebration and costume contest. Prizes will be given for the best costumes.

• David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., youth ages 6 to 15 can play carnival games, enter a costume contest and receive a free book through a Rochester Families Read book giveaway.

•Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave. From 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Ryan R-Center staff and parents of the Rochester Rams football team will be hosting a “Trunk-or-Treat” event for youth ages 5 to 12. The evening features a dance contest, inflatables, a Rochester Families Read book giveaway and trick-or-treating from the back of parked cars.

•Flint Street R-Center, 271 Flint St. From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., youth ages 6 to 14 are invited to stop by for cider, donuts and candy and recieve a book through the Rochester Families Read book giveaway.

•Campbell Street R-Center, 524 Campbell St. From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., youth ages 6 to 14 are invited to decorate cookies, play carnival games, enter a coloring contest and receive a book through the Rochester Families Read book giveaway.

•Humboldt R-Center, 1045 Atlantic Ave. From 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Humboldt R-Center is hosting its first ever Haunted Hallway. Youth ages 6 to 13 can enjoy an evening of tricks, treats, games and prizes.

Rochester Families Read is a component of Mayor Warren's 3-to-3 Initiative, which encourages children to begin reading at age 3 and to be reading at grade level by 3rd grade. For more information, visit www.cityofrochester.gov/familiesread.
