News Release - Eastern Inner Loop to Close November 26

City of Rochester

Motorist Advisory

(Thursday, November 20, 2014) – The Inner Loop Expressway between Monroe Avenue and East Main Street will be closed to traffic beginning Wednesday, November 26 as construction on the Inner Loop East Transformation project takes place over the next three years.

  • Traffic on the north end of the Inner Loop must exit at Scio Street or East Main Street.
  • Vehicles at the south end of the Inner Loop must exit at Monroe Avenue.
  • The on and off ramps to I-490 at Monroe Avenue and Chestnut Street will remain open.

Access to all local streets adjoining the project area will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

The $21 million project to reconstruct this two-third mile stretch of the eastern segment of the Inner Loop Expressway into an at-grade street between Monroe Avenue and Charlotte Street is being done to promote economic development and enhance the area's livability, allowing people to easily drive, walk and bicycle between neighborhoods and Downtown.

Please see the attached closure map and visit www.cityofrochester.gov/InnerLoopEast for more information.

The closure was originally scheduled to take place November 21, but has been rescheduled due to the weather events in the Buffalo area.
