News Release - New Temporary Downtown Parade Route Announced

City of Rochester

 News Release

(Thursday, December 11, 2014)— Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that beginning in 2015, the new Downtown parade route will step off at East Avenue and Scio Street and end at Main Street and Plymouth Avenue. While maintaining most of the original route, the new starting point is located at East Avenue and Scio Street instead of at East Avenue and Alexander Street. Various streets around the starting point will be used for parade staging.

“We appreciate the complexities behind planning large-scale events and are happy that parade organizers and the community could come together to better understand how construction of the Inner Loop project will impact events for the next couple of years,” said Mayor Warren. “We are pleased that there was general consensus from stakeholders regarding the selected route.”

Input was solicited from event organizers from the St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day parade committees, members of the East End Business Association and the community. The City held a public meeting on November 17 that displayed five route options. Meeting attendees weighed in on what they liked or did not like about each route. The Mayor and representatives from the Rochester Police Department, the Department of Environmental Services and the Office of Special Events were on hand to answer questions at the open house-style meeting.
