News Release - R-Center Members do the “Cupid Shuffle” at Pre-Valentine’s Day Dance with THRIVE

(Tuesday, February 10, 2015) – The THRIVE program, (Teens Helping to Reinvent Identity Values and Empowerment), will celebrate St. Valentine’s Day early with a Cupid Shuffle Dance on Friday, February 13. The dance will be held at the David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North Street from 5 to 8 p.m. This free event is open to THRIVE members and R-Centers EZ Rec Pass holders ages 11 to 14. To become an R-Centers EZ Rec Pass holder, register at www.cityofrochester.gov/rcenters. Participants are asked to RSVP by calling 428-6358.

At the Cupid Shuffle Dance, youth will learn the latest shuffle with a high-energy DJ, refuel with light refreshments, play games, participate in various arts and crafts activities and capture the fun in a photo booth.

THRIVE is an after-school service learning program offered by the City of Rochester in collaboration with several community service agencies. It is part of a nation-wide program designed to discover the most effective ways for adults to help young people engage in positive behaviors. With the help and support of certified adult facilitators, THRIVE youth play an active role in learning what they need to succeed. Participants also complete at least twenty hours of community service.
