Motorist Advisory -- St. Patrick’s Day Parade Day Activities to Affect Traffic

(Thursday, March 12, 2015) – The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade activities will affect Downtown traffic, parking and transit service on Saturday, March 14.

Parade Route 

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from East Avenue and Scio Street. The parade will proceed westbound on East Avenue to Main Street, then turn westbound on Main Street and end at the corner of Main Street and South Plymouth Avenue. The parade marchers will continue south on South Plymouth Avenue and proceed to Broad Street between Exchange Street and Plymouth Avenue for disbandment. The parade route will be closed to vehicular traffic around noon and reopen after the parade is completed, around 3:30 p.m.

Parade contingents will gather for staging on East Avenue between Scio and Pitkin and on various surrounding side streets. Staging streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; with staggered openings as streets participants enter the parade.

The following streets will be closed for staging:
• East Ave. from Alexander St. to Chestnut St.
• Pitkin St. from Chestnut St. to Main St.
• Union St. from Charlotte St. to Gardiner Pk.
• Broadway from Lawn St. to East Ave.
• Winthrop St. from East Ave. to Charlotte St.
• Charlotte St. from Scio St. to Pitkin St.
• Broad St. from Chestnut St. to Pitkin St.
• Franklin St. from Main St. to Pleasant St.

Johnny’s Runnin’ of the Green Road Race 

The 5 mile road race—Johnny’s Runnin’ of the Green— will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, March 14 on Court Street between South Avenue and Exchange Street. The runners will proceed southbound on Exchange Street, turn eastbound on Ford Street, then southbound on Wilson Boulevard to Fraternity Road. At that point the Runners will turn around and reverse their route back to the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial. The race course will be closed to traffic at 9 a.m. and re-open as the last runners move along the course. All affected streets should to re-open by 11:00 a.m. Johnny’s Runnin’ of the Green is sponsored by CATS Athletic Club. Questions can be directed to CATS at (585) 288-4246.

Free Parking 

Free parking will be available on Saturday, March 14 until 4 p.m. in the following City garages:
• East End;
• Court Street;
• South Avenue;
• Sister Cities;
• Washington Square.

After 4 p.m., the special event rate of $7 will resume.
