News Release

(Thursday, May 21, 2015) - The City of Rochester Public Market’s 27th annual Flower City Days at the Market series, traditionally held on Sunday, continues this upcoming holiday weekend with extended days. Flower City Days at the Market Memorial Day weekend schedule is as follows: Friday May 22; Sunday May 24, and Monday May 25. All events run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The Public Market is one of the most unique entities within Rochester City government, which offers residents an incredible community resource for plants, food and even entertainment,” said Mayor Lovely Warren. “It only makes sense that here in the ‘Flower City,’ we would extend the highly popular Flower City Days at the Market to give residents even more opportunities to enjoy this fantastic resource. Important quality of life venues like our Public Market serve as a way to bolster and enhance our efforts at City Hall to drive more jobs, better schools and safer, more vibrant neighborhoods.”

Flower City Days is a horticultural extravaganza unlike any other in Western New York. Hundreds of vendors, including some of the areas best-known local nurseries, offer a wide variety of bedding plants, shrubs, vegetable plants, perennials and annuals. Garden tools and accessories will also be on sale.

Remaining Flower City Days at the Market are Sunday, May 31 and Sunday, June 7.  Master Gardeners from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County will be available at the Market Office to provide expert gardening advice.

The City will also offer a “Give and Take” Recycle Program outside the Market office. Gardeners can deposit garden pots, flats and containers at the office and take away any that they might need in their own gardens to aid their transplanting and plant trading.
