(Monday, June 15, 2015) — Mayor Lovely A. Warren, City Neighborhood and Business Development Commissioner Bayé Muhammad and Department of Information Technology Director Lisa Bobo joined Sameer Penakalapati today to celebrate the grand opening of information technology company Avani Technology Solutions Inc., 687 Lee Road.
“I am happy to welcome Sameer Penakalapati and his team at Avani Technology Solutions to Rochester,” said Mayor Warren. “The growth of businesses like this provide a perfect example of why President Obama has selected Rochester to be a TechHire Community. Avani is helping us in our goal of creating more jobs, safer neighborhoods and better schools for all of Rochester.”
Avani specializes in software development, custom software solutions and providing skilled information technology professionals in the areas of mobility, web applications, security testing and enterprise computing. The company has 130 employees and plans to hire 100 more within three years.
“Rochester is an ideal market for us as it has a rich history of developing and embracing technical and practical innovations,” said Mr. Penakalapati. “This is very much our vision.”
Avani was founded in 2008 and was previously located on Wieland Road. Avani Technology Solutions is also the owner of Avani Business Park at 687 Lee Road.
The company moved to accommodate an expansion and invest in Rochester through property ownership. Avani Business Park is located on the site of a former racquetball club and hosts 12 tenants, including a chiropractor’s office, an accounting firm and a daycare.
Mr. Penakalapati has more than 15 years of experience in the information technology industry and has a master’s degree in engineering from Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences, Pilani, India. He has completed the Program for Executive Development at Harvard Business School.
