News Release - From the Gorge Exhibit on Display in City Hall Link Gallery

City of Rochester

News Release

(Monday, June 29, 2015) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that the “From the Gorge - The Genesee Valley Gorge Project” is on exhibit in the City Hall Link Gallery, 30 Church St., through July 27.

The exhibit is sponsored by Greentopia and includes photographic works of images of the Genesee River gorge by Bruno Chalifour, Lauren Howe, Gil Maker, Steve Malloy-Desormeaux, Don Menges, John Solberg, and George Wallace.

The Genesee Valley Gorge Project was instigated in the spring of 2014 by Rachel Edwards and Michael Philipson of Greentopia who wanted to add a visual component to the Greentopia festival. The 2015 Link Gallery exhibit features a selection of photographs originally displayed in the Center at High Falls in September.

Philipson selected the participating photographers based on their capacity to meet such a project with good work, their knowledge and experience of the medium and the field and their availability.

Emphasis was placed on staying close to Greentopia’s focus on their project for High Falls; developing a personal voice and aesthetic choices that would go beyond simple documentation; and creating a potential photographic archive on the Genesee River Gorge and lay the groundwork for future surveys of the area.
