(Monday, July 6, 2015) — Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that a summer full of City-sponsored free-music concerts kicks off this week. Bands on the Bricks concert

“Whether you visit, work or live in the city of Rochester, we have a soundtrack for you,” said Mayor Warren. “We are proud to showcase the musical talent that is drawn to Rochester. Free cultural events like these help us create safer, more vibrant neighborhoods, more jobs and provide our children with better educational opportunities.”

This week is the first week of three series of free concerts sponsored by the City of Rochester: the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) Around the Town Concerts; the Downtown Noontime Concert Series; and Bands on the Bricks at the City of Rochester Public Market.

Schedules and concert details are as follows:

RPO Around the Town Concert Series 

The RPO brings classical music out of the concert hall and into the neighborhoods with three free, family-friendly concerts. Around the Town concerts take place on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. through July 21:

  • July 7: Maplewood Rose Garden Pavilion, 24 Driving Park Ave.
  • July 14: Franklin High School campus, 950 Norton St.; and
  • July 21: Susan B. Anthony Square, 39 King St.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Concerts may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. For more information, visit www.cityofrochester.gov/aroundtownconcerts. 

Noontime Concert Series

Noontime Concert Series concerts take place at the Downtown Aqueduct Park, south of the Main Street Bridge, on Wednesdays at noon through Aug. 5:

  • July 8: Me & the Boyz (cover rock)
  • July 15: Soul Express (R&B / smooth jazz);
  • July 22: Band N Public (jazz);
  • July 29: 40 Rod Lightning (alternative Americana); and
  • Aug. 5: Candela (salsa).

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and lunch (or visit the nearby food truck) and enjoy the free concerts in this pocket park on the corner of Main and Graves Streets. The concerts take place rain or shine with no alternative rain dates or locations. The Noontime Concert Series is produced by the City of Rochester and is sponsored by Thomson Reuters. Bands on the Bricks

Visit the City of Rochester Public Market on five consecutive Fridays from 6 to 10 p.m. at 280 N. Union St. through Aug. 7:

  • July 10: Into the Now; and Big Eyed Phish – The Dave Matthews Tribute Band
  • July 17: Satisfaction – the International Rolling Stones Show; and Who are You – A Celebration of The Who
  • July 24: Latino Night produced in partnership with the Puerto Rican Festival;
  • July 31: Donna the Buffalo; and The Falconers;
  • Aug. 7: Thunder Body; and The Majestics
