Mayor Lovely A. Warren Announces Assistance for Open Enrollment for Health Care Plans

(Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren reminded residents today that there is a schedule of opportunities for one-on-one assistance to enroll in or renew insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The Central Library Downtown, and select City branch libraries and R-Centers will host numerous events offering information and individualized help with the online Health Insurance Marketplace, which helps the uninsured enroll in health coverage.

“Everyone deserves access to affordable health care,” Mayor Warren said. “Reach out to your friends, family and neighbors to let them know that if they don’t have health insurance, they can get help to secure it.”

The Open Enrollment period for 2016 coverage started November 1, 2015 and closes January 31, 2016. Residents must enroll by December 15 to ensure coverage by January 1, 2016.

Current enrollees in a 2015 Marketplace plan will see benefits end December 31, 2015. To continue their health coverage in 2016 they can either renew their current health plan or choose a new health plan through the Marketplace during open enrollment.

Through January 31, 2016, HealthCare Navigators from Trillium Health, Law New York and Coordinated Care Services, Inc. will help individuals and families enroll in and renew coverage at participating libraries and R-Centers.

Navigators remove barriers to the application process by providing assistance in multiple languages, in community based settings during non-traditional hours such as evenings and weekends.

Those looking for assistance in enrolling are asked to bring current income documents such as paystubs for the past 2 months. No appointment is necessary.

The Central Library, 115 South Ave., will offer individualized assistance to patrons every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to Jan. 28 (Except Dec. 24 and 31).

A full schedule of help sessions including dates, times and locations may be found at www.cityofrochester.gov/ACA, or by calling (585) 428-6755.

Navigator and In-Person Assistance programs are federally-funded and operated in accordance with the Affordable Care Act to make in-person support broadly available for those who need additional assistance enrolling.
