News Release - Mayor Warren Launches Community Survey to Guide Future Neighborhood Revitalization in Rochester

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, April 12, 2016) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that the City will evaluate the outcomes and impact of the Focused Investment Strategy (FIS) community development program with a survey available on the City’s website as well as a paper version available at ten sites throughout the city.

“As we continue our efforts to create more jobs for our citizens, better educational opportunities for our children and safer more vibrant neighborhoods throughout Rochester, engaging the community in this process is a key priority,” said Mayor Warren. “This survey gives us another opportunity ensure that residents are involved in the process and that their voices are heard.”

Launched in 2008 with community partners, FIS is a targeted effort to remove blight, renovate buildings, build new homes, improve streetscapes and facilitate community planning and projects such as gardens and beautification in one neighborhood in each of Rochester’s four quadrants:

• Northeast Quadrant: Marketview Heights FIS Area;
• Southeast Quadrant: Beechwood FIS Area;
• Northwest Quadrant: Dewey Driving Park FIS Area;
• Southwest Quadrant: Jefferson FIS Area

All are welcome to participate in the survey, but the City is particularly interested in hearing from residents, property owners or citizens who spend time in any of these FIS areas.

The survey asks questions about the participant’s relationship to the FIS program, how they heard about the program, changes observed in FIS areas, whether quality of life has been affected and more. Responses will remain anonymous and results from the survey will help guide future neighborhood revitalization efforts in Rochester.

The survey, posted on the City’s website at www.cityofrochester.gov/fis, will be open through Wednesday, April 27. Hard-copy surveys may be picked up and turned in at the following locations:

• City Hall, Department of Neighborhood and Business Development, 30 Church St. Rm. 005A;
• Northeast Neighborhood Service Center, 500 Norton St.;
