News Release - Mayor Lovely Warren Announces Second Round of 2016 Owner-Occupant Roofing Program

City of Rochester

News Release

(Monday, April 25, 2016) – Mayor Lovely Warren has announced that the application period for the second round of financial assistance for roof replacement of owner-occupied single-family homes in the city of Rochester opens today, April 25. The $1.7 million 2016 Owner-Occupant Roofing Program started in January and is split into two rounds of funding. Grant awards cover the cost of roof replacement and other related repairs such as gutters, downspouts, roof flashing and minor chimney repairs.

“Roof repairs can be a costly financial burden for some homeowners, and, when left in disrepair, can cause further damage to a home,” said Mayor Warren. “Our Owner-Occupant Roofing brings help to those who need it, creating safer and more livable homes for our residents while improving our neighborhoods.”

The first round of funding was quadrant-based and a total of 68 applicants were randomly selected from the City Neighborhood Service Centers. Senior citizens made up 30 percent of those selected. Qualified homeowners who were not selected in the first round are automatically entered in the upcoming drawing.

The second round of funding will be city-based, in which names will be selected from a city-wide pool of applicants. The open application period for this round will run from April 25 to May 26 with a drawing to be held on May 27 at the Thomas P. Ryan Community Center, 530 Webster Ave. Applicants do not need to be present at the drawing. Selected residents will be promptly notified.
Program applicants must own a single-family residential property located in the city, meet income guidelines, be current with City property tax payments and cannot have had a city housing grant in the
past seven years. Homeowners must also live at the property for three years after receiving assistance.

Interested homeowners may submit a pre-application at their nearest Neighborhood Service Center. For more information, call 428-6912 or visit the City’s website at cityofrochester.gov/roofrelief.
