News Release

(Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that a vibrant new neighborhood event, “The re:Main Social,” will be held from 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 1 in front of The Metropolitan (corner of Main Street and Clinton Avenue) in Center City. The re:Main Social is a free event hosted by RocCity Coalition in partnership with the City of Rochester, the Celebrate City Living Coalition, Young Urban Preservationists, the Rose Fellowship, Healthi Kids, the Landmark Society of Western New York and the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation.

The event envisions and engages the past, present, and future of East Main Street, where participants can tour some of Center City’s most interesting spaces, both new and old, check out art installations, tactical urbanism, and enjoy food and drink. The event culminates in a “Save the Block” dance party starting at 6 p.m. with music by DJ ALYKHAN and DJ Stinky that includes high-powered image projections of historic and future Rochester.

“The re:Main Social is a fun opportunity to showcase the distinctive character and variety of housing choices in Rochester’s Center City and to celebrate city living,” said Mayor Warren. “Revitalizing our Center City is an important component in our efforts to create safer more vibrant neighborhoods, more jobs and better educational opportunities throughout the city. I invite everyone to come downtown for this dynamic event that gives residents and potential residents a chance to experience Rochester’s energy and explore the many housing opportunities available in our city.”

The City’s Rec on the Move van will provide recreation activities and the Rochester Public Library’s Books by Bike will roll through the event. Patrons may meet adoptable pets from the Verona Street Animal Shelter.

Booth activities sponsored by Canandaigua National Bank and performances by Hochstein School of Music & Dance and others will run from 3 to 6 p.m., immediately followed by the dance party.

Additional participants include: Shawn Dunwoody, Home Leasing, Steinmetz Planning Group, and The Housing Council at PathStone. For more information on the event, visit  www.celebratecityliving.com.
