News Release - Rochester Selected to Participate in the “Cities Supporting the Early Childhood Workforce” Initiative

(Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren has announced that Rochester has been selected by the National League of Cities (NLC) to participate in the “Cities Supporting the Early Childhood Workforce” technical assistance initiative. With funding from the Foundation for Child Development, the NLC, through its Institute for Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Institute) will provide Rochester’s early education stakeholders with one-on-one technical assistance, site visits, peer learning opportunities and other assistance.

“Providing our youth with a strong educational environment early in life is crucial for lifelong learning and growth,” said Mayor Warren, who serves as co-chair of the YEF Council. “I am grateful for the National League of Cities’ investment to improve early childhood learning in our city. This initiative will help us improve educational opportunities in our city which leads to more jobs and safer more vibrant neighborhoods.”

The City of Rochester will join Hartford, CT, Jacksonville, FL, Richmond, VA and Kansas City, MO to receive technical assistance during the two-year project. the YEF Institute will delve into Rochester’s work on early childhood workforce issues, highlight successes across the country, and connect local leaders to one another. During the first year, the Institute will visit Rochester to create opportunities for peer learning among leaders in the field. In the second year, the Institute will continue to support and facilitate peer learning opportunities and host a roundtable for in-person collaboration and knowledge sharing with local and national leaders along with other experts. At the conclusion of the project, the YEF Institute will compile its findings and share the lessons learned and best practices with NLC member cities and their partners.
