News Release

(Friday, Feb. 17, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren, Monroe County and RochesterWorks! invite youth between the ages of 14 and 20 to apply for the City's Summer of Opportunity Program (SOOP) and the RochesterWorks! Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

These programs provide summer-long job readiness training, career exploration and paid employment opportunities for youth who are currently enrolled in middle school, high school or actively pursuing their high school equivalency diploma. Youth who participate in SOOP/SYEP learn skills that make them more attractive to employers and more successful in school.

“Real world experience is key to establishing a rewarding career," said Mayor Warren. “The Summer of Opportunity and Summer Youth Employment programs allow young job seekers to gain the skills needed to be successful in a competitive job market. Maintaining a strong workforce is key to our efforts to create more jobs which leads to safer, more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for our citizens."

Interested youth may apply online for both programs beginning Monday, Feb. 20 through Friday, March 24. In addition to the online application, applicants must submit copies of their Social Security card, work permit, a recent report card and photo ID. A printed application signature report page must be signed by a parent and school counselor. Supporting documents will be accepted at the Recreation Administration Office located at 400 Dewey Ave. until March 24.  From March 27 to March 31, supporting documents will be accepted at Danforth Community Center, 200 West Ave., from 2 to 7p.m.
